ALTOONA -- Many churches, including Champion Life Church, offered free Thanksgiving meals to those in need of food or company.
"There are people (who) may not be able to afford a meal like this, but most importantly, there are those (who) may not even have anybody to spend Thanksgiving with," said Devin Spradling of Champion Life Church.
"It's important that we give them a place where they can come in and they can meet with other people that they know or may not know and establish some type of connection or relationship with them."
Pastor James Baldwin said it took around 20 or 30 volunteers, as well as businesses and individuals who donated food, to make it happen.
Cooking in the kitchen for hours, volunteers said the Church attracts anywhere from 100 to 200 guests.
"It was very exciting to see how many people were excited to volunteer for something like this because it's not easy for someone to sacrifice their time with their family to be able to come and serve," Spradling said.
Guests lined up in front of the doors at the church, chatting while waiting for the meal to begin.
"We just keep serving until we either run out of food or run out of people," Baldwin said.
The same day, the church began working on their December events, including a Christmas dinner and a toy drive with the goal to serve 250 kids, according to Baldwin.
